How to ski is a very broad term. What I want to talk about here are some exercises you can do at home which will help you on your journey to learn how to ski.
First of all there is the thing we call the skiing stance. www.livetoski.co To practice at home start by standing up straight. Preferably with a full length mirror at the side of you.
Now allow your knees to move forward but keep your hips above your feet. now if you look in the mirror your ankle joint should be flexed inwards. Your knee joint should be flexed and also your hip joint should be flexed. This is what we call, ankle, knee and hip flex.
Now allow your back to bend forward slightly. Ideally the angle of your back should be about the same angle as your lower leg.
Now put your arms out in front of you and out to the side slightly. You are now in your skiing stance. This is how to ski all the way through your skiing.
Keeping in your stance position gradually straighten your legs. This is what we call our fully flexed up position.
Now allow your knees to move forward again as before. This is what we call our fully flexed down position.
Keep practicing this exercise at home with a mirror at the side of you. It will help a lot all the way through your skiing.
Another exercise to do at home to help you to learn how to ski is standing on one leg.
As I talked about before when practicing the skiing stance start by allowing your knees to move forward so that your ankle, knee and hip joints are flexed.
Now try to lift one leg off the floor. It might be a challenge at first but keep practicing until you can do it.
Now straighten the leg you are standing on (fully flexed up position) then allow the knee to move forward until you are in the fully flexed down position.
Keep practicing this exercise on one leg and then the other until it becomes second nature.
These two exercises that you can do at home will help you enormously on your journey of learning how to ski.
