The Zillertal Valley Ski area

The Zillertal Valley Ski area has numerous resorts.  In this post we are looking at Hoch Fugen.

This is the next resort along the valley from Fugen which we looked at in the previous post.

It is a larger resort than Fugen and it is linked to Kaltenbach which we will look at in the next post.

There is a project to link Fugen to Hoch Fugen.

When you put all 3 together:  Fugen, Hoch Fugen and Kaltenbach. This will make it one of the largest in the Zillertal Valley Ski area.

It is great for beginners and also intermediates who are aspiring to be advanced skiers.

As you first arrive into the car park there is a nursery and beginners area on the right.

To the left there are some hotels and restaurants and ski lifts up with red runs no’s one, two and three.

The cable car lift which is called, “Zillertal Shuttle”  takes you to the top of these runs or you can go across and this links you to Kaltenbach.

As you come down red number three towards the bottom you have a choice of five restaurants.

They are all very good but my preferred one is the first one you come to called, “Aar wirt”

When the sun is shining you can sit outside and look across the valley and watch the skiers go by.

There is one restaurant at the top of Hoch Fugen which has some great views back down the valley over a lot of the ski runs.

From here there is a choice of blue runs eleven, twelve and thirteen from which you can pick up a lift called, “Hochfugen 2000”.

This takes you to the highest point of the resort. (2330 m) As you come off the lift there is an area that you can walk up to a fantastic view point across the Zillertal Valley Ski area.  This is a great place to take pictures.

From here there is access to some more challenging runs starting with red run number 10.

From this run you can access an off piste area or black runs no’s six and seven.

All in all Hoch Fugen is a nice, easily manageable resort in the Zillertal Valley Ski area.
